How to Check if Call Forwarding Is On: Codes for Every Network

2026-09-21 · 5 min read

If people say your phone rings once and then goes to someone else, or you never see missed calls from numbers that say they called, forwarding may be switched on without you knowing. Four short codes tell you exactly what is set, on any Indian mobile network, in under a minute.

The four check codes

Dial each of these and press call. They cost nothing and change nothing; they only ask the network what is set.

CodeWhat it checks
*#21#Forwarding of all calls
*#61#Forwarding when you do not answer
*#62#Forwarding when the phone is off or out of coverage
*#67#Forwarding when you are on another call

They work on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL, prepaid and postpaid.

Reading the result

A result like Voice: not forwarded or Service has been disabled means that condition is off. A result that shows a number, such as Voice: forwarded to +91 98xxxxxx10, means calls in that situation go to that number. It is normal to see a number under *#62# even if you never set one: many networks forward unreachable calls to their own voicemail or missed call alert service by default. That number usually belongs to the operator, not to a person.

Why the phone's settings can disagree

On an iPhone, Settings shows a Call Forwarding switch, but it only covers all calls. Forwarding when busy, not answered or unreachable is stored in the network, so the switch can be off while missed calls still go elsewhere. On Android the Call forwarding screen reads the network, but it can show stale values if it could not reach the network. The codes always ask the network directly, so trust them over the settings screen.

If you find forwarding you did not set

Clear it with ##002#, which removes all forwarding. Then check again with the four codes. If an unknown number keeps coming back, ask your operator to remove it and to confirm no one else can change settings on your number; it is rare, but a SIM swap or an old installer's setting can leave forwarding behind.

Checking that forwarding you did set is working

If you forward missed calls to a receptionist line on purpose, the check codes should show that number under *#61# and ideally *#62# and *#67#. Then test it properly: call your own number from another phone, let it ring without answering, and confirm the call is picked up at the other end. For a business, do this once a month; operators occasionally reset settings after a plan change or SIM replacement.

Common questions

What is the code to check call forwarding?

Dial *#21# for all calls, *#61# for not answered, *#62# for unreachable and *#67# for busy. Each reports whether that kind of forwarding is on and to which number.

Why does *#62# show a number I never set?

Most operators forward unreachable calls to their own voicemail or missed call alert number by default. It is the network's number, not a person's.

Can someone forward my calls without my knowledge?

Only by dialling a code from your phone, through your operator, or with access to your SIM. If you find a number you do not recognise, clear it with ##002# and ask your operator to check the number.

Do the check codes cost anything?

No. They only query the network.
